We work at the intersection of design, craft and material exploration, using natural waxes as our medium.

We began with beeswax...

WAX Atelier was founded in London in 2017 by Lola Lely and Yesenia Thibault-Picazo.
What started as a fascination with this remarkable material has grown into a practice centred on natural waxes, making by hand and small-batch production.
Today, from our Hackney atelier, we create candles, objects, workshops and collaborations shaped by nearly a decade of working with wax.
Led by Lola Lely, WAX Atelier continues to deepen its understanding of wax through making, teaching and experimentation.

Our work ranges from hand-dipped candles and seasonal collections to bespoke commissions and one-off pieces.

Everything begins with wax...

Alongside beeswax, we work with a growing palette of natural waxes sourced from beekeeping, agriculture, food production and perfumery, including rapeseed, rice bran, rose, jasmine and orange peel.
Each wax brings its own character, colour, scent and behaviour.
Through blending, testing and experimentation, we continue to discover new qualities and applications for these often overlooked materials.
Guided by principles of resourcefulness and circularity, surplus wax is collected, remelted and transformed into new products, artworks and teaching materials, extending the life of every resource.

Our Hackney atelier is where ideas take shape.

Part workshop and part laboratory, it is a place for observation, experimentation and craft. Candles are dipped by hand, waxes are blended and new products are developed in small batches.

Established in 2024, WAX Atelier Labs is our not-for-profit initiative exploring wax, craft, ecology and making within a designated local nature reserve.

Based at Abney Park in Hackney, and supported by the Abney Park Trust, the Lab hosts workshops, exhibitions and community projects that encourage people of all ages to learn through making.
Income from workshops and retail activities helps support public programmes and opportunities for young people to engage with materials, nature and craft.
